Mater Dei School provides contemporary and innovative education for students.

The school’s pedagogy is driven by current Evidence and Research-based practices. Teachers deliver the curriculum implementing high-leverage practices to engage all students.

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is responsible for developing Kindergarten to Year 12 syllabuses for NSW schools in accordance with the Education Act 1990 and the NSW Education Standards Authority Act 2013. Mater Dei School implements these Syllabuses with Universally Designed Learning experiences based on age and stage appropriate outcomes and content. 

Explicit teaching is utilised across all Key Learning Areas and particularly in the KLAs of English and Mathematics where research strongly supports this method of teaching and learning.

Kindergarten – Year 6

At Mater Dei School, Kindergarten to Year 6 includes four Stages of learning:

  • Early Stage 1 – Kindergarten

  • Stage 1 – Year 1 and Year 2

  • Stage 2 – Year 3 and Year 4

  • Stage 3 – Year 5 and Year 6

 

Students at Mater Dei School undertake a breadth of learning experiences across the Curriculum in the Key Learning Areas of:

  • Religious Education

  • English

  • Mathematics

  • Science and Technology

  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

  • Creative Arts

  • Human Society and Its Environment (History and Geography).

Years 7 – 12

In recognition that all students are entitled to participate in and progress through the curriculum, NESA provides Years 7–10 courses based on Life Skills outcomes and content, and Years 11–12 Life Skills courses.  These provide options for students with special education needs who cannot access the regular course outcomes, particularly for students with an intellectual disability. The Life Skills Curriculum is designed in such a way that students only have to study ‘some’ of the designated outcomes and content from a particular course.

Students completing Year 12 at Mater Dei School will be eligible for a Higher School Certificate. They will not be awarded an ATAR. Students who leave after Year 10 but before Year 12 will be eligible for the Record of Student Achievement.
