School Canteen

Welcome to the Mater Dei School Canteen

Canteen is held on Fridays
between 9:30am and 1:30pm.

Canteen is a sub-committee of the P&F and is run by volunteers.

We serve morning tea and lunch with over the counter sales for Primary and Secondary students during recess from the rear of the hall. This provides a valuable learning experience in using money for the students.

The canteen menu offers healthy, nutritious, freshly made unprocessed food and snacks.

As we only operate 1 day a week, all orders must be pre-ordered & pre-paid. Orders may be sent in on any day but must be received by Thursday at the latest as our volunteers need to complete the shopping before Canteen day.

We have added some new items to the menu this year as a trial, in order to cater for the children who are “GLUTEN FREE”. These are marked as (GF).

Orders are distributed to the students by way of the following:-

Years K – 2
All orders must be pre-ordered & pre-paid on a paper bag or Stickybeaks bag
Orders are picked up by a class representative & taken to classroom for distribution.

Years 3-12

Items may be purchased from the Canteen window as per menu. A spending limit of $3 is imposed

All Classes
All orders must be pre-ordered & pre-paid on a paper bag or Stickybeaks bag
Orders are picked up by a class representative & taken to classroom for distribution.

The Mater Dei Canteen sells lunch bags called “Stickybeaks”. These are re-useable & washable lunch bags & are only $10 each - a better alternative to paper bags which rip easily & don’t fit much inside.
A lot of students order the same lunch each week so it saves you time writing out the order every week. Just pop the money in the zipper pocket & you’re all done.  For more information, please look at

If you wish to order, please complete the order form below & return to Mater Dei in an envelope addressed to “Canteen”.

While our focus is on providing nutritious food to the students and allowing them to have access to the excitement of using a canteen at school, it is also a great opportunity for parents to get together each week in an inclusive environment.  Stories, laughs, the challenges of daily life with a child with a disability and tears are all shared in a supportive environment where we all have a common understanding.

As many of our students come from diverse geographic locations, it provides a great opportunity for networking in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

The Mater Dei canteen runs every Friday purely on a volunteer basis. Volunteers are always welcome, whether it be weekly, fortnightly, monthly or whenever you are free. There is no set roster due to all volunteers being welcome on any given day. However if you would like to nominate a specific Friday/s you are available please fill out your details on the form linked below and return it to school as soon as possible and a member of the Canteen Committee will be in touch.

All volunteers need to hold a valid Working With Children Check.  For volunteer work, this check is free.  Click here to complete the online application form. Make sure you select the volunteer option under the Purpose for Check Section on the right hand side of the page.  You will receive an application number via email.  Please take this application number and proof of your identity to your closest RMS or Service NSW office.  Once your application has been processed and you are cleared, you will receive your Working With Children Check number (WWC) via email.  We ask that you then advise the school of your WWC number and date of birth.

If you would like to come along and see what its all about or join us for a coffee and chat we would love to see you.

Access to canteen is via reception from 9:30am.

Please download and complete the form below and return it to school via your child’s class diary.
