  • Director of Continuous Learning

    25 May, 2017

Following an exhaustive recruitment process conducted by TrakSearch, I am delighted to advise that Tennille Bertram has been appointed as Director of Continuous Learning at Mater Dei.

Tennille joins Mater Dei with considerable experience dealing with young adults with disabilities particularly in the field of acquired brain injury. Tennille has worked at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre in Sydney, the Liverpool Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, Mid Western Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program, Royal Private Rehabilitation and Westmead Brain Injury Unit. Her passion is to improve the lives of people with a disability.

Tennille is a qualified Speech Pathologist having completed a BA in Applied Science (Speech) and a Masters of Health Science majoring in Research, both from Sydney University.

Tennille's most recent position was with the Sydney Catholic Education Office working with teachers to develop evidence based interventions for students with additional learning support needs.

Tennille brings a warm and engaging personality to Mater Dei and a capacity, commitment and imagination to bring to life this important initiative in the life of Mater Dei and young adults who have completed their compulsory schooling.

Tennille's appointment to this new role marks an exciting time in the evolution of programs offered by Mater Dei that currently include an Early Intervention Program and a K-12 School Program.

    I envisage that the emerging opportunities in the Mater Dei post school program will differ from existing programs in that they will be;

    1. Focused on continuous learning including specific skill development.
    2. Evidence based.
    3. Informed by best practice models locally, nationally and internationally and
    4. Driven by the principles of self determination.

I am confident that Tennille is committed to animating these principles in the planning of Mater Dei's post school options. I am delighted that Tennille has joined the community of Mater Dei and I warmly welcome her and assure her of our confidence and support.

Tennille will take up her appointment commencing Monday 28th August.

    Tony Fitzgerald

  • Exciting New School Bus!

    13 March, 2019

Students and staff at Mater Dei are excited for the first ride in our new school bus. The bus was delivered by the wonderful team at Clinton’s Toyota who have worked with staff to ensure the bus met all the requirements unique to Mater Dei students.

The 22 seater bus has been modified to seat 16 including 2 wheelchair spaces, which has not previously been available in one bus. One class currently has 2 students in wheelchairs, so previously the class would need to split up between two smaller buses. The brand new bus allows more classes to travel together as one group and ensures our high levels of student supervision and safety are maintained when travelling off site.

Thanks to the generous support of the NSW State Member for Camden Mr Chris Patterson and former State Member for Wollondilly Mr Jai Rowell combined to donate via the NSW State Government Grants $80,000 towards this project. At our 2018 Foundation Dinner, supporters pledged a ‘seat on the bus’ raising over $100,000 which was a fantastic result and allowed us to purchase our new bus.

The arrival of the bus is perfect timing to say thank you to the two outgoing State Members who have both been strong advocates for Mater Dei throughout their time in office. They were both recognised as well as our other wonderful supporters that contributed to this project at our Principal’s Assembly last Friday afternoon (8 March).
